Amalaki Panaka

Original Ayurvedic Gooseberry Drink Recipe: Doctor Varun Ram Raj

Ingredients:

  1. Amalaki / Indian Gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica) – ½ kg

  2. Palm sugar (Tala/Kharjura guda) or date jaggery – 1 kg

  3. Dry ginger powder – 5 g

  4. Cardamom powder – 5 g

  5. Honey – as needed

  6. Water – 500 ml + 300 ml for extraction


Method of Preparation:

  1. Steam cook the gooseberries and remove the seeds.

  2. Grind into a fine paste and extract juice. Add about 300 ml more water to the pulp, squeeze again to get additional juice.

  3. Prepare palm sugar syrup by boiling it in 200 ml of water. (If palm sugar is not available, jaggery or sugar can be used.)

  4. Mix the gooseberry juice and palm sugar syrup together.

  5. Stir well, and the refreshing Amalaki Panaka is ready.

  • Supports in osteoarthritis, atherosclerosis, anemia, peptic ulcers, urinary tract infections, dysentery, and high blood pressure.

  • Can be consumed as a healthy traditional soft drink.

Note:

  • Not recommended for people with Diabetes mellitus, as it contains sugar/jaggery/honey.

  • For better dosha balance, the amount of sweetener can be adjusted as per requirement.

  • Honey should only be added after the preparation has cooled slightly.
