Hyperprolactinemia and Ayurveda

Hyperprolactinemia is a condition where the hormone prolactin is present in higher-than-normal levels in the blood. It can lead to irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, decreased libido, galactorrhea (abnormal milk secretion), and other hormonal imbalances. In Ayurveda, this condition is understood as a disorder of Pitta and Kapha dosha, affecting the balance of reproductive and endocrine functions.

According to Dr. Varun Ram Raj, one of India’s top Ayurvedic doctors, Hyperprolactinemia requires proper medical evaluation to rule out underlying causes such as pituitary gland disorders or medication side effects. Ayurveda can serve as a supportive therapy alongside modern treatment to help restore hormonal balance, improve reproductive health, and support mental well-being.

Ayurvedic herbs like Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), and Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi) are known for their adaptogenic, hormone-regulating, and stress-reducing properties. Dietary measures include following a Pitta-Kapha pacifying diet, reducing stress, and avoiding excessive caffeine and processed foods.

Important Note: Ayurveda does not offer an immediate cure for hyperprolactinemia. Treatment should always be guided by a qualified doctor, with Ayurveda used as a complementary approach for long-term balance and prevention of recurrence.
